AAA Texas/City of Dallas Judiciary Hold Teen Driver Safety Fair to Save Lives

Car crashes are the second leading cause of death for teenagers. Today AAA Texas, City of Dallas Judiciary, and Parks and Recreation held a safety event to help families prepare for the difficult learning-to-drive process.  The Teen Driver Safety Fair, which was held at Campbell Green Recreation Center inNorth Dallas, offered interactive exhibits, one-on-one meetings with traffic safety experts and presentations by safety-minded organizations.

This is an important time of year to remind young drivers about safety as April is National Distracted Driving Awareness Month (60% of teen crashes involve distractions), prom and graduations are near, and the 100 Deadliest Days for teen drivers (Memorial Day to Labor Day) is just around the corner.

Participating organizations included Texas Department of Transportation, Street Racing Kills, Mothers Against Drunk Driving, Allie’s Way, United Towing, Youth 180, Methodist Hospital, Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital, Nickel from Nicole, Dallas Animal Services, and Dallas Police Department.

  • Car crashes are the second leading cause of death for teens in the U.S.
  • Teen drivers are more at risk than any other age group to be involved in a crash.
  • Inexperience and risky behavior put teens more at risk for fatal crashes.
  • April is national Distracted Driving Awareness Month
  • Distractions are involved in 60% of teen crashes
