AAA Texas and Sen. Tan Parker to Host FREE Senior Health and Wellness Fair

SENIOR

AAA Texas and State Senator Tan Parker are offering a free Senior Health and Wellness Fair on Saturday, Dec. 9, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at Flower Mound Senior Center, located at 2701 W. Windsor Dr., Flower Mound, Texas. The event will feature resources aimed at helping to keep seniors safe, healthy and independent as they age.

The event caps off Older Driver Safety Awareness Week, which runs Dec. 4-8, 2023. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, between 2012 and 2021, the U.S. population of people 65 and older increased by 22%, and in 2021 the number of people 65 and older killed in traffic crashes made up 17% of all traffic fatalities. During Older Driver Safety Awareness Week, we remind drivers that simply getting older doesn’t mean it's time to hang up your keys, but it’s a good time to evaluate how you or your loved ones drive.

A variety of vendors will be on hand to share free resources on driving safety, physical wellness, nutrition, home care and travel. Attendees will also hear from local experts on maintaining independence, driver education and scam prevention.

“I am glad to join AAA Texas for this free, local resource fair specifically created to assist Texas seniors and their families,” said State Senator Tan Parker. “Working with seniors across Texas, I have listened and learned from their valuable perspectives on resources that are most helpful. This event was created with many of these needs in mind, helping to keep senior Texans safe and healthy for years to come.”

“AAA Texas’ goal is to help senior drivers continue to drive safely and comfortably for as long as possible,” said AAA Texas spokesperson Kara Thorp. “When seniors are unable to drive, they lose important social connections with friends and family, as well as access to health care. Studies show this can result in an increase in depression among older individuals.”

A light breakfast will be provided and attendees will receive free resources and giveaways from vendors.

Registration is required to attend this free event at AAATexasSeniorFair.eventbrite.com or by calling 512-383-4342.
