The statewide gas price average in Texas is $2.52 per gallon for regular unleaded fuel, according to the AAA Texas Weekend Gas Watch. That price is right cents less when compared to this day last week and is 11 cents less per gallon compared to this day last year. Of the major metropolitan areas surveyed in Texas, drivers in El Paso are paying the most on average at $2.92 per gallon while drivers in Lubbock are paying the least at $2.28 per gallon. The national average price for a gallon of regular unleaded is $2.98, which is four cents less when compared to this day last week and five cents less when compared to this day last year.
Texas drivers are seeing relief at the pump as several national factors continue to exert downward pressure on prices. Crude oil remains relatively low at around $60 per barrel, and gasoline demand is dropping heading into the winter months. In addition, the switch to the more affordable winter-blend gasoline is helping bring production costs down. Together, these trends are contributing to lower gas prices across much of the Lone Star State.
“Texans are benefiting from a perfect mix of lower crude oil prices, soft gas demand, and the availability of cheaper winter-blend fuel,” said Daniel Armbruster, spokesperson for AAA Texas. “These factors are helping drive pump prices down, providing welcome relief for drivers heading into the colder months.”
