AAA Texas: Texans See Price Drop at the Pump Ahead of the Start of Summer

(Coppell, TX) – The statewide gas price average in Texas is $2.14 for a gallon of regular unleaded fuel, according to the AAA Texas Weekend Gas Watch. That price is five cents less than last week and is the same price per gallon as on this day last year. Of the major metropolitan areas surveyed in Texas, drivers in Dallas and Ft. Worth are paying the most on average at $2.19 per gallon while drivers in Amarillo are paying the least at $1.98 per gallon. The national average price for a gallon of regular unleaded is $2.32, which is four cents less than last week and five cents less than the price per gallon at this same time last year.

The national price drops at the pump are due to an unexpected buildup of crude oil inventories last week combined with ongoing high gasoline production, an increase in gasoline stocks and a drop in gasoline demand.

The country’s cheapest gas prices continue to be in the south and southeast: Oklahoma ($2.04), Arkansas ($2.08) and Louisiana ($2.13). In the region, all states saw prices decline at the pump with Texas dropping the most by five cents from last week.

“With many students being out of school now, this is a great time for Texas families to take advantage of lower gas prices and make that first summer road trip,” said AAA Texas/AAA New Mexico Representative Daniel Armbruster. “AAA Texas Travel Agents at branch offices across the state are ready to help travelers plan for those exciting trips that will help save them time and money.”
