AAA Texas: Statewide Gas Price Average Increases Eight Cents This Week

(Coppell, TX) – The statewide gas price average in Texas is $2.19 for a gallon of regular unleaded fuel, according to the AAA Texas Weekend Gas Watch. That price is eight cents more than last week and 32 cents more per gallon than last year. Of the major metropolitan areas surveyed in Texas, drivers in Dallas are paying the most on average at $2.25 per gallon while drivers in San Antonio are paying the least at $2.10 per gallon. The national average price for a gallon of regular unleaded is $2.37 which is seven cents more than last week and 32 cents more per gallon than last year.

Global markets saw a slight increase in the price of oil this week following speculation that OPEC and non-OPEC producers may extend their agreement beyond the original six-month deadline of June. Weather interruptions and unplanned maintenance at refineries supplying various regional markets have led to a price increase in retail prices this week. Although the increase impacting retail prices has been moderate, it is possible this trend could continue as refinery maintenance wraps up, more expensive summer-blend gasoline becomes available and driving demand increases this spring. Despite the issues that have impacted statewide prices this week Texas remains one of the top ten states for least expensive gas prices.

“Skipping or delaying recommended auto maintenance or repairs may increase the likelihood of unexpected repairs,” said AAA Texas/New Mexico representative Sarah Schimmer. “To ease the surprise of an unexpected breakdown, vehicle owners may want to budget for the inevitable expenses of routine maintenance and repair.”
