AAA Texas: Statewide Gas Price Average Same As Last Week

(Coppell, TX) – The statewide gas price average in Texas is $2.11 for a gallon of regular unleaded fuel, according to the AAA Texas Weekend Gas Watch. That price is the same as last week and 22 cents more per gallon than last year. Of the major metropolitan areas surveyed in Texas, drivers in Dallas and El Paso are paying the most on average at $2.16 per gallon while drivers in San Antonio and Texarkana are paying the least at $2.04 per gallon. The national average price for a gallon of regular unleaded is $2.30 which is one cent more than last week and 25 cents more per gallon than last year.

Last year, OPEC and non-OPEC countries agreed to cut their output by 1.8 million barrels a day for six months starting in January 2017. Market watchers will pay close attention to the OPEC Secretariat’s upcoming recommendations on whether to extend production cuts. The Secretariat is expected to provide a recommendation in April, well before the current agreement is set to expire in June.

Drivers in the South region of the country continue to enjoy the lowest prices at the pump with six states landing on the nation’s list of cheapest retail markets: South Carolina, Alabama, Mississippi, Arkansas, Louisiana and Texas. Refineries are wrapping up spring maintenance and preparing for the busy summer refining season.

“A vehicle in an investment for any driver and to protect that investment AAA Texas encourages car owners to maintain their vehicle according the recommended maintenance schedule found in the owners manual,” said AAA Texas/New Mexico representative Sarah Schimmer. “Regular maintenance can extend the life of the vehicle and maintain performance.”
