What: AAA Texas will hold a free Bike Rodeo and Helmet Fitting event to encourage proper helmet use and teach children how to ride their bikes safely. Free helmets will be provided to the first 100 children along with fittings. A bike raffle will be held.
Why: Children are required to wear helmets at all times when riding within Houston city limits. According to Houston’s city ordinance, it is against the law for a parent to knowingly allow a child under the age of 18 to ride a bike without a helmet. Failure to comply with this law could result in a ticket and/or a fine. In 2021, according to data from the Texas Department of Transportation, 93% of riders under age 18 in the Lone Star State do not wear helmets.
Who: Attendance is open to the public, but space is limited and registration is required
When: Saturday, September 10, 10:00 a.m. to 12 noon. Interviews available before as well as during the event.
Where: The Children’s Assessment Center, 2500 Bolsover Street, Houston, TX 77005.
