The statewide gas price average in Texas is $2.78 per gallon for regular unleaded fuel, according to the AAA Texas Weekend Gas Watch. That price is one cent less when compared to this day last week and is 32 cents less per gallon compared to this day last year. Of the major metropolitan areas surveyed in Texas, drivers in El Paso are paying the most on average at $2.91 per gallon while drivers in McAllen are paying the least at $2.60 per gallon. The national average price for a gallon of regular unleaded is $3.15, which is one cent less when compared to this day last week and 34 cents less per gallon when compared to this day last year.
As the summer driving season winds down, Texas drivers are still seeing stable prices at the pump. Statewide gas prices have remained under $3 per gallon throughout the summer—an encouraging trend for drivers not seen since 2021. While both crude oil prices and fuel demand have seen slight increases, they’ve not been significant enough to push gas prices higher.
“Gasoline demand and crude oil prices both ticked up over the past week, but not at a pace that’s pushing prices higher for drivers,” said AAA Texas spokesperson Daniel Armbruster. “Many Texas travelers are still enjoying some of the most stable summer fuel prices in recent years.”
