AAA Texas: Statewide Gas Price Average Remains Among Least Expensive in the Region

Gas Prices

(Coppell, TX) – The statewide gas price average in Texas is $2.12 for a gallon of regular unleaded fuel, according to the AAA Texas Weekend Gas Watch. That price is four cents more than last week and 53 cents more per gallon than last year. Of the major metropolitan areas surveyed in Texas, drivers in Dallas are paying the most on average at $2.19 per gallon while drivers in San Antonio are paying the least at $2.03 per gallon. The national average price for a gallon of regular unleaded is $2.31 which is three cents more than last week and 53 cents more per gallon than last year.

National gas prices have remained flat for nearly a month. Continued compliance from OPEC countries has kept crude oil trading higher than last year, but rising U.S. production has placed a ceiling on the market leading to the flat prices. In mid-March, prices will likely rise as more refiners begin to switch from winter-blend to summer-blend gasoline and driver demand increases. Texas continues to be among the nation’s top five least expensive markets including: South Carolina, Alabama, Tennessee, Mississippi and Texas.

“AAA Texas encourages motorists to keep up with regular maintenance prior to taking any Spring Break road trips,” said AAA Texas/New Mexico representative Doug Shupe. “Before driving your vehicle for several hundred miles consider preparing both the vehicle and updating the emergency kit to include items that may be helpful on a long road trip. Members can stop by any AAA Texas branch office and work with an Auto Travel Counselor for a TripTik, routing tips and maps for their Spring Break destination.”

Motorists can find current gas prices along their route with the free and revamped AAA App for iPhone, iPad and Android. The app can also be used to map a route and learn traffic conditions along that route, find discounts, locate parking, book a hotel and request and track AAA roadside assistance.
