AAA Texas: Statewide Gas Price Average Increases One Cent

(Coppell, TX) – The statewide gas price average in Texas is now $2.04 for a gallon of regular unleaded fuel, according to the AAA Texas Weekend Gas Watch. That price is one cent more than last week and four cents more per gallon than last year. Of the major metropolitan areas surveyed in the Lone Star State, drivers in Dallas and Ft. Worth are paying the most on average at $2.06 per gallon while drivers in Corpus Christi are paying the least at $1.96 per gallon. The national average price for a gallon of regular unleaded is now $2.23 which is two cents less than last week and two cents less per gallon than last year.

Prices continue to wobble as areas of the country impacted by Hurricane Matthew work to replenish supply and several refineries across the country address planned and unplanned facility maintenance.  Drivers in the South are enjoying relatively low pump prices with Texas among the states in the region making the list of cheapest markets in the country. Prices in the Gulf Coast are also recovering from a week long shutdown at a Texas refinery. Portions of the refinery were taken out of service for an unplanned repair. The Gulf Coast is home to the bulk of U.S. refining capacity, which should keep prices relatively low for drivers, barring a hurricane or another unexpected event.

“Texans are paying an average of $28 to fill a 14-gallon tank, the approximate size of family vehicle,” said AAA Texas/New Mexico Representative Doug Shupe. “That is about three dollars less per tank compared to the national average.”
