(Coppell, TX) – The statewide gas price average in Texas is now $2.01 for a gallon of regular unleaded fuel, according to the AAA Texas Weekend Gas Watch. That price is four cents more than last week and five cents less per gallon than last year. Of the major metropolitan areas surveyed in the Lone Star State, drivers in Texarkana are paying the most on average at $2.07 per gallon while drivers in San Antonio are paying the least at $1.95 per gallon. The national average price for a gallon of regular unleaded is now $2.25 which is four cents more than last week and four cents less per gallon than last year.
While national prices have been steady, pump prices in some regions have increased over this same period, largely due to disruptions on the Colonial Pipeline and refinery maintenance. Drivers may continue to see pump prices wobble in the next few weeks as the market reacts to the OPEC production agreement, continued refinery maintenance and any disruptions Hurricane Matthew may cause along the East Coast.
“Texans are currently paying about $28 for a tank of regular unleaded gasoline for an average family sized vehicle,” said AAA Texas/New Mexico Representative Doug Shupe. “Texas remains one of the top ten states with the cheapest statewide gas price averages in the nation.”
