AAA Texas: Statewide Gas Price Average Decreases Two Cents

Gas Prices

(Coppell, TX) – The statewide gas price average in Texas is $2.09 for a gallon of regular unleaded fuel, according to the AAA Texas Weekend Gas Watch. That price is two cents less than last week and 28 cents more per gallon than last year. Of the major metropolitan areas surveyed in Texas, drivers in El Paso are paying the most on average at $2.13 per gallon while drivers in San Antonio are paying the least at $2.02 per gallon. The national average price for a gallon of regular unleaded is $2.29 which is one cent less than last week and 33 cents more per gallon than last year.

Market analysts say gas prices may continue to drop in the near future due to declining crude oil prices and a well-supplied market, but will begin to creep up again over the next month due to seasonal refinery maintenance and the May 1 required switchover for producing summer-blend gasoline. Texas continues to remain among the top 10 least expensive markets in the country. Market analysts remind drivers that an unexpected market-moving event, such as unplanned refinery maintenance or further production cuts from OPEC and non-OPEC countries, could impact prices and supply.

“Texas drivers are paying $29.26 to fill a 14-gallon tank, the size of an average family vehicle,” said AAA Texas/New Mexico representative Sarah Schimmer. “As Texans continue to enjoy Spring Break AAA Texas encourages members to drive responsibly by buckling up, monitoring speeds, and limiting distractions.”
