The statewide gas price average in Texas is $2.85 for a gallon of regular unleaded fuel, according to the AAA Texas Weekend Gas Watch. That price is four cents less than on this day last week and is six cents less per gallon compared to this day last year. Of the major metropolitan areas surveyed in Texas, drivers in El Paso are paying the most on average at $3.09 per gallon while drivers in the Sherman-Denison metropolitan area are paying the least at $2.66 per gallon. The national average price for a gallon of regular unleaded is $3.27, which is one cent less when compared to this day last week and three cents less than the price per gallon at this same time last year.
After two consecutive weeks of the statewide fuel price average rising, pump prices are trending downward. Recently lower gasoline prices can be attributed to falling crude oil prices, lower demand and refineries returning closer to normal operation after impacts from the year-end winter storm. Ultimately, retailers set the final price of a gallon of gas and price fluctuations remain possible.
“Weaker demand for fuel, along with slightly cheaper crude oil prices, are helping reverse the recent upward trend in what drivers are paying at the gas pump,” said AAA Texas spokesperson Daniel Armbruster. “Currently, Texas has the lowest gas price average of any U.S. state. Remember to research gas prices by using a mobile app, such as the AAA mobile app, to see how much stations are charging.”
Drivers in Texas are paying the lowest gas price average in the country, according to gasprices.aaa.com. Meanwhile drivers in Hawaii are paying the most at $5.01 on average for a gallon of regular unleaded.
