AAA Texas: New Year Brings Relief at the Pump for Texas Drivers

Coppell, TX Gas Prices, Monthly Fuel Prices Report, Weekly Fuel Prices Report
TX Gas Price Watch

The statewide gas price average in Texas is $2.42 per gallon for regular unleaded fuel, according to the AAA Texas Weekend Gas Watch. That price is two cents less when compared to this day last week and is 28 cents less per gallon compared to this day last year. Of the major metropolitan areas surveyed in Texas, drivers in El Paso are paying the most on average at $2.71 per gallon while drivers in the Lubbock area are paying the least at $2.15 per gallon. The national average price for a gallon of regular unleaded is $2.82, which is one cent less when compared to this day last week and 25 cents less when compared to this day last year.

The new year begins with the lowest statewide average in years at $2.42. The last time the Texas statewide average for a gallon of regular gas was this low was back in March of 2021. Crude oil prices remain relatively unchanged from the end of 2025 and unaffected amid questions about Venezuela’s impact on the oil market. Currently, the global oil supply is strong, as OPEC+, the coalition of oil-ex-porting countries, says it’s not planning any production hikes in the first quarter of 2026 due to lower demand.

“Texans are kicking off the new year with gas prices we haven’t seen since early 2021,” said Daniel Armbruster, spokesperson for AAA Texas. “Stable crude oil prices and a strong global oil supply are helping keep prices in check as demand remains lower.”
