AAA Texas: Late-Summer Travel Pushes Gas Prices Higher

Coppell, TX Gas Prices, Monthly Fuel Prices Report, Weekly Fuel Prices Report
TX Gas Price Watch

The statewide gas price average in Texas is $2.79 per gallon for regular unleaded fuel, according to the AAA Texas Weekend Gas Watch. That price is four cents more when compared to this day last week and is 25 cents less per gallon compared to this day last year. Of the major metropolitan areas surveyed in Texas, drivers in Dallas and El Paso are paying the most on average at $2.94 per gallon while drivers in Laredo and McAllen are paying the least at $2.59 per gallon. The national average price for a gallon of regular unleaded is $3.16, which is one cent less when compared to this day last week and 28 cents less per gallon when compared to this day last year.

Despite relatively low crude oil prices, increased end-of-summer road trip activity is driving a slight uptick in Texas gas prices. Even with this modest rise, motorists are still enjoying the most affordable summer at the pump in four years, with prices remaining well below recent seasonal averages. This shows how strong travel demand can still cause prices to edge up, even when oil costs are low.

“Even though crude oil prices remain low, late-summer road trip activity is putting some upward pressure on pump prices,” said Daniel Armbruster, spokesperson for AAA Texas. “The good news for drivers is that this is still the cheapest summer for gasoline in four years.”
