The statewide gas price average in Texas is $2.87 per gallon for regular unleaded fuel, according to the AAA Texas Weekend Gas Watch. That price is 11 cents more when compared to this day last week and is 28 cents less per gallon compared to this day last year. Of the major metropolitan areas surveyed in Texas, drivers in the El Paso area are paying the most on average at $3.11 per gallon while drivers in the McAllen area are paying the least at $2.66 per gallon. The national average price for a gallon of regular unleaded is $3.26, which is 11 cents more when compared to this day last week and 29 cents less per gallon when compared to this day last year.
Gas prices made a sizable jump this past week. Several factors are driving the increase, including refinery maintenance and the summer-blend gasoline switch. While prices are up compared to last week, they remain below where they were this time last year.
