The statewide gas price average in Texas is $2.81 per gallon for regular unleaded fuel, according to the AAA Texas Weekend Gas Watch. That price is seven cents more when compared to this day last week and is 15 cents less per gallon compared to this day last year. Of the major metropolitan areas surveyed in Texas, drivers in El Paso are paying the most on average at $3.09 per gallon while drivers in McAllen are paying the least at $2.61 per gallon. The national average price for a gallon of regular unleaded is $3.21, which is seven cents more when compared to this day last week and 15 cents less per gallon when compared to this day last year.
Texas gas prices are on the rise ahead of the Labor Day holiday weekend. While fewer travelers typically hit the road for this end-of-summer holiday compared to Memorial Day or the Fourth of July, the majority of those celebrating will still be driving to their destinations. Overall, summer fuel prices have held relatively steady and are expected to ease as the fall season begins. However, it’s important to remember that Mother Nature and global events can quickly and unexpectedly influence prices at the pump.
“Even with a slight uptick ahead of Labor Day, Texans have enjoyed stable gas prices throughout much of the summer driving season,” said Daniel Armbruster, spokesperson for AAA Texas. “As we transition into fall, drivers may see some additional relief at the pump, though hurricane activity or global events could still cause sudden price swings.”
