The statewide gas price average in Texas is $2.68 per gallon for regular unleaded fuel, according to the AAA Texas Weekend Gas Watch. That price is the lowest of any state in the U.S. this week, is three cents less than on this day last week and is 28 cents less per gallon compared to this day last year. Of the major metropolitan areas surveyed in Texas, drivers in El Paso are paying the most on average at $2.90 per gallon while drivers in Laredo are paying the least at $2.49 per gallon. The national average price for a gallon of regular unleaded is $3.13, which is two cents less when compared to this day last week and 35 cents less per gallon when compared to this day last year.
According to the Energy Information Administration, supply of refined gasoline stocks decreased week-to-week, but remain above year-ago levels. Meanwhile, demand for fuel increased on the week. Crude oil, the main ingredient in gasoline, is cheaper this week. West Texas Intermediate was trading at $69 per barrel at the time of this release.
“There’s nothing spooky about Texas gas prices this Halloween,” said Daniel Armbruster, AAA Texas spokesperson. “Texas has the lowest gas price average in the country and prices could sink even lower in the days to come.”
