The COVID-19 pandemic means that holiday shoppers are more likely to opt for practical gifts over luxury purchases, according to new research. The marketing research firm Morning Consult surveyed consumers in September about their holiday spending plans and found that 73 percent of them are purchasing either fewer luxury items as gifts compared to other years, or no luxury items at all.
