The statewide gas price average in Texas is $2.87 for a gallon of regular unleaded fuel, according to the AAA Texas Weekend Gas Watch. That price is seven cents less than on this day last week and are 11 cents less per gallon compared to this day last year. Of the major metropolitan areas surveyed in Texas, drivers in El Paso are paying the most on average at $3.08 per gallon while drivers in Lubbock are paying the least at $2.61 per gallon. The national average price for a gallon of regular  unleaded is $3.27, which is one cent less when compared to this day last week and 13 cents less than the price per gallon at this same time last year.

Gas prices have been fluctuating and that trend continues this week. After notable increases last week, Texas fuel price averages mostly receded this week. Price fluctuations will likely continue. Warmer weather usually means higher demand for fuel, especially once Spring Break arrives. In addition, the switchover to the more expensive summer blend gasoline is around the corner, usually starting in late March or early April.

“Fuel price averages continue to fluctuate,” said Daniel Armbruster, spokesperson for AAA Texas. “With the busy Spring Break travel season approaching, gas price average fluctuations remain likely.”
