The statewide gas price average in Texas is $2.75 per gallon for regular unleaded fuel, according to the AAA Texas Weekend Gas Watch. That price is one cent more when compared to this day last week and is one cent less per gallon compared to this day last year. Of the major metropolitan areas surveyed in Texas, drivers in the Brownsville-Harlingen and El Paso areas are paying the most on average at $2.96 per gallon while drivers in Lubbock are paying the least at $2.58 per gallon. The national average price for a gallon of regular unleaded is $3.16, which is the same price when compared to this day last week and four cents less per gallon when compared to this day last year.
While a few Texas metro areas recorded noticeable price jumps week-to-week, most cities across the state saw little to no change at the pump. Seasonal factors such as declining fuel demand and the transition to winter-blend gasoline, which is cheaper to produce, are helping keep prices relatively stable overall. Strong global crude oil supply and the possibility of further production increases by OPEC+ are also easing upward pressure, even as some U.S. refineries temporarily go offline for maintenance.
“Most drivers across Texas are paying nearly the same as last week, though a few regions did see sharper increases,” said AAA Texas spokesperson Daniel Armbruster. “Overall, seasonal trends are keeping prices fairly steady for the fall, with the statewide average increasing one cent week-to-week.”
