(Coppell, TX) – The statewide gas price average in Texas is $3.05 per gallon for regular unleaded fuel, according to the AAA Texas Weekend Gas Watch. That price is two cents more than on this day last week and is 10 cents less per gallon compared to this day last year. Of the major metropolitan areas surveyed in Texas, drivers in El Paso metro area are paying the most on average at $3.35 per gallon while drivers in Lubbock are paying the least at $2.78 per gallon. The national average price for a gallon of regular unleaded is $3.45, which is one cent less when compared to this day last week and 13 cents less per gallon when compared to this day last year.
Demand is down on the week and gasoline supplies continue to build. This is keeping gas prices from further increasing as summer driving season is underway. According to the Energy Information Administration, gasoline stocks grew this week by nearly five million barrels, while gasoline demand decreased by approximately 100,000 barrels per day to 9,040,000 barrels per day.
AAA anticipates record travel volume for Independence Day, which could cause fuel prices to fluctuate. Most market analysts believe average prices for regular unleaded fuel will be lower compared to last July 4th.
“Summer driving season started off hot but has cooled a bit over the last few weeks when it comes to demand for gasoline,” said AAA Texas spokesperson, Daniel Armbruster. “Things will likely heat back up as AAA anticipates record travel this coming Independence Day.”
