AAA Texas: Gas Prices Move In Mixed Directions

TX Weekend Gas Watch

The statewide gas price average in Texas is $2.78 per gallon for regular unleaded fuel, according to the AAA Texas Weekend Gas Watch. That price is a penny higher than on this day last week and is 55 cents less per gallon compared to this day last year. Of the major metropolitan areas surveyed in Texas, drivers in El Paso are paying the most on average at $3 per gallon while drivers in Tyler are paying the least at $2.65 per gallon. The national average price for a gallon of regular unleaded is $3.19, which is three cents less when compared to this day last week and 60 cents less per gallon when compared to this day last year.

Drivers in most Texas metro areas saw little change in gas prices over the past week, but there were some big weekly increases in the southern part of the state.

Oil and Gas Market Trends

Oil prices have climbed higher in recent days due to the escalating Middle East conflict and worries that oil supplies could be disrupted. However, at $73 a barrel, WTI crude is still well below its highest levels of over $80 a barrel earlier this year.

“We are in the time of year when prices normally drop after the end of the peak summer demand period,” said AAA Texas spokesperson Doug Shupe. “Texas gas prices are unlikely to be negatively affected by the aftermath of Hurricane Helene or the port strike that began this week.”
