AAA Texas: Gas Prices Increase As Millions Prepare For Holiday Travel

Coppell, TX Gas Prices, Monthly Fuel Prices Report, Weekly Fuel Prices Report
TX Gas Price Watch

(Coppell, TX) – The statewide gas price average in Texas is $2.67 per gallon for regular unleaded fuel, according to the AAA Texas Weekend Gas Watch. That price is nine cents more compared to this day last week and is seven cents more per gallon compared to this day last year. Of the major metropolitan areas surveyed in Texas, drivers in the El Paso area are paying the most on average at $2.87 per gallon while drivers in Lubbock are paying the least at $2.46 per gallon. The national average price for a gallon of regular unleaded is $3.04, which is one cent more when compared to this day last week and four cents less per gallon when compared to this day last year.

The convergence of increasing demand and reduced supplies is driving up fuel costs at the pump. This trend coincides with millions of Texans and Americans preparing for holiday travel. According to AAA Texas, an estimated 9.1 million Texans will journey 50 miles or more during the year-end holiday period, with 90 percent traveling by automobile. This surge in travel is expected to further put pressure on demand and potentially elevate fuel prices as 2024 concludes.

“As anticipated, gas prices are on the rise as we approach the end of 2024,” stated Daniel Armbruster, spokesperson for AAA Texas. “With record-breaking holiday travel volumes projected, the increased demand for fuel is likely to result in higher prices in the coming days.”
