AAA Texas: Gas Prices in Texas Decline Week-Over-Week, Near Year-Ago Levels

Gas Watch Thumbnail 2

The statewide gas price average in Texas is $2.74 per gallon for regular unleaded fuel, according to the AAA Texas Weekend Gas Watch. That price is four cents less when compared to this day last week and is four cents less per gallon compared to this day last year. Of the major metropolitan areas surveyed in Texas, drivers in El Paso are paying the most on average at $2.95 per gallon while drivers in Lubbock are paying the least at $2.58 per gallon. The national average price for a gallon of regular unleaded is $3.16, which is four cents less when compared to this day last week and five cents less per gallon when compared to this day last year.

As autumn begins, Texas drivers are paying slightly less at the pump compared to last week. The statewide average has dipped by four cents, and prices are now nearly identical to what motorists were paying at this time last year. Seasonal factors such as reduced demand after the summer driving season and the ongoing switch to less expensive winter-blend gasoline are helping keep prices from climbing. Still, with hurricane season continuing through November, storm activity in the Gulf could cause temporary price spikes.

“Gas prices are down compared to last week and remain close to what Texans were paying a year ago,” said Daniel Armbruster, AAA Texas spokesperson. “Seasonal factors like reduced demand and the switch to winter-blend gasoline are helping ease prices. While things are calming down at the pump, it’s important to remember that hurricane season continues through November.”
