The statewide gas price average in Texas is $2.63 per gallon for regular unleaded fuel, according to the AAA Texas Weekend Gas Watch. That price is two cents more than last week and is eight cents less per gallon compared to this day last year. Of the major metropolitan areas surveyed in Texas, drivers in the San Angelo area are paying the most on average at $2.72 per gallon while drivers in Lubbock are paying the least at $2.36 per gallon. The national average price for a gallon of regular unleaded is $3.03, which is three cents less when compared to this day last week and 19 cents less per gallon when compared to this day last year.
According to new data from the Energy Information Administration (EIA), gasoline supply and demand data is mixed throughout the U.S. Last week’s busy Thanksgiving travel period may have also played a role in increasing some Texas gas prices.
“Despite increases in some areas, gas price averages in most parts of the state are at or near their lowest levels of 2024,” said Doug Shupe, AAA Texas spokesperson. “Texas is now the third least expensive state for gasoline behind Oklahoma, with a $2.52 statewide average and Mississippi, where the statewide average price is $2.62.”
