Texas gas prices moved in mixed directions over the past week as the state gets set to end the year with an annual average price over $3 for the seventh time this century, according to AAA Texas. The statewide gas price average in Texas is $2.67 for a gallon of regular unleaded, which is two cents lower than last Thursday and four cents lower than this date last year. Of the major metropolitan areas surveyed in Texas, drivers in Midland are paying the most on average at $2.91 per gallon while drivers in Amarillo are paying the least at $2.54 per gallon. The national average price for a gallon of regular unleaded is $3.12, which is the same as a week ago and one cent lower than a year ago today.
“When looking at the year-to-date annual average gas price in 2023, Texas drivers paid about 40 cents per gallon less on average compared to 2022,” said AAA Texas spokesperson Daniel Armbruster. “Last year’s annual average price for the state was $3.52, which was the highest annual average ever. This year’s annual average price is likely to be about $3.10 per gallon, which is lower than the statewide annual average prices in 2008, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014 and 2022.”
Drivers in Texas are paying the lowest gas price average in the country today, according to gasprices.aaa.com. Meanwhile, drivers in Hawaii are paying the most at $4.67 on average for a gallon of regular unleaded.
