AAA Texas: Gas Prices Drop In Most Areas

tx gas watch thumbnail

The statewide gas price average in Texas is $3.13 per gallon for regular unleaded fuel, according to the AAA Texas Weekend Gas Watch. That price is four cents less than on this day last week and is two cents more per gallon compared to this day last year. Of the major metropolitan areas surveyed in the Lone Star State, drivers in Dallas/Fort Worth are paying the most on average at $3.19 per gallon while drivers in Lubbock are paying the least at $2.89 per gallon. The national average price for a gallon of regular unleaded is $3.56, which is five cents less than last week and one cent less than last year.

Typically, in June, pump prices remain stable barring any unexpected refinery issues or tropical weather systems forming. A storm impacting the Gulf Coast oil production and refining centers could temporarily push prices higher. The 2024 Atlantic Hurricane Season begins on June 1st.

“On average Texans are paying 43 cents less for fuel than the national average. In most major metro areas, we saw gas prices move lower and a handful of other cities saw prices move higher and are now in line with other averages around the state,” said AAA Texas Spokesman Doug Shupe. “As Texans prepare to take summer road trips, we remind them to always think about maximizing fuel efficiency by keeping vehicles well-maintained, packing luggage inside their trunks rather than using rooftop luggage racks and obeying posted speed limits.”

The Weekend Gas Watch monitors the average price of gasoline. As of 9 a.m. on May 30, averages are:
