The statewide gas price average in Texas is $2.55 per gallon for regular unleaded fuel, according to the AAA Texas Weekend Gas Watch. That price is ten cents more when compared to this day last week and is 19 cents less per gallon compared to this day last year. Of the major metropolitan areas surveyed in Texas, drivers in San Antonio are paying the most on average at $2.71 per gallon while drivers in the Lubbock area are paying the least at $2.34 per gallon. The national average price for a gallon of regular unleaded is $2.94, which is five cents more when compared to this day last week and 21 cents less when compared to this day last year.
Gas prices are trending upward across the Lone Star State as warmer weather and a three-day weekend are leading to an increase in fuel demand. Prices may continue to fluctuate or edge higher in the coming weeks as refineries begin preparations for the seasonal transition to summer-blend gasoline.
“Gas prices are moving higher across Texas as warmer temperatures and a holiday weekend put more drivers on the road,” said Daniel Armbruster, AAA Texas spokesperson. “While prices are still lower than they were this time last year, seasonal factors — including increased demand and the upcoming transition to summer-blend gasoline — could keep upward pressure on pump prices in the weeks ahead.”
