The statewide gas price average in Texas is $2.78 per gallon for regular unleaded fuel, according to the AAA Texas Weekend Gas Watch. That price is three cents less when compared to this day last week and is 35 cents less per gallon compared to this day last year. Of the major metropolitan areas surveyed in Texas, drivers in Dallas and Fort Worth are paying the most on average at $2.87 per gallon while drivers in the McAllen area are paying the least at $2.62 per gallon. The national average price for a gallon of regular unleaded is $3.16, which is one cent less when compared to this day last week and 35 cents less per gallon when compared to this day last year.
Texas drivers are enjoying the lowest July gas prices in four years, with average pump summer prices not seen this low since 2021. However, a low-pressure system off the Gulf Coast is drawing attention as it moves westward. While the chance of significant development remains low, this time of year brings heightened sensitivity to tropical activity, which can impact fuel prices—especially if storms disrupt Gulf Coast refineries or if flooding affects fuel supply chains and consumer demand.
"Texans are benefiting from a summer of relatively low gas prices, a welcome relief during peak travel season," said Daniel Armbruster, spokesperson for AAA Texas. “While the current system off the Gulf Coast isn’t expected to have major impacts, it’s a reminder that tropical weather can quickly shift fuel dynamics along the Gulf Coast.”
